Since February 2022, we have worked with the Whitworth to deliver award-winning activities to families during the school holidays and support social inclusion.

Now, thanks to funding from Arts Council England, over the past 12 months, we have provided four half terms of free culturally relevant activities, accessible to all.

To reflect and celebrate, Afrocats and Whitworth will host our first symposium on Tuesday 1st July 2025 to share and explore how inclusive creative practice can support community collaboration.

We will also share how working with global majority artists allows our work to have a more meaningful, culturally competent impact and, in turn, further develop artists' practice.

The symposium will host speakers from across the project who will share best practices, challenges, and new methods of approaching this work as a Gallery of Sanctuary and highlight the importance of working with the voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector.

The event will include:

  • a series of keynote speakers

  • panel discussions

  • interactive workshops

  • networking opportunities
