Cooking and memories of home

We use food within our projects to connect and build a sense of community amongst the refugees and asylum seekers we work with. So we are delighted to be working with our friends at WAST (Women Asylum Seekers Together) on their National Lottery funded project My Culture, My Cookbook.

The project will help to tackle the food poverty experienced by the women seeking asylum that are part of the WAST network. Particularly the women living in hostels or hotels due to the issues they experience accessing culturally appropriate food.

During the consultation process, the women on the project shared recipes that reflect their culinary experiences and backgrounds. Each week we meet on Mondays to cook the recipes together. The project will culminate with the launch of our community cookbook which will be available to buy from WAST in the coming months.

Here's a sneak peak at what's on the menu!
