Harpurhey was alive with energy, rhythm, and community spirit as we hosted our recent Healthy Hearts celebration, which was a festival of wellbeing, togetherness, and joyful creative movement.
Our event brought local residents, families, and community groups together for a day filled with dance, learning, and laughter, and featured a fantastic collaboration between local organisations working hard to promote health and inclusion, including Cancer Care Diaspora, Mthrive, Obado, Across Ummah, and BHA for Equality.
Each organisation brought its own expertise and enthusiasm, offering valuable information, free resources, and advice on how to keep both body and mind healthy, and was a shining example of how community partnerships can make a real difference to people’s lives - particularly those from global majority communities who are vulnerable to developing high blood pressure.
Guests were treated to healthy, freshly prepared snacks delivered by the event’s catering team – and the food wasn’t just nutritious, it was delicious, proving that taking care of your heart can taste amazing too.

Of course, no Afrocats event would be complete without some dancing, and the incredible Maisha got everyone on their feet with her infectious energy and uplifting moves!
Adding a burst of high-octane fun, our very own Jenny led an energetic Rockfit session, mixing music, fitness, and rock ‘n’ roll attitude for a heart-pumping workout that everyone got stuck in with.
And the fun didn’t stop there! In Harpurhey Park, families enjoyed outdoor circus skills, where children had the chance to spin plates, juggle, and learn new tricks in the open air.
Our Healthy Hearts event wasn’t just about a single day of fun; it was about inspiring healthier habits and stronger connections across Harpurhey and beyond, and by combining culture, creativity, and care, Afrocats continues to show how the arts can bring people together for positive change.
