Here at Afrocats, we’re starting 2025 off strong with our brand-new manager Jenny.
Jenny will be working with our amazing project producers to ensure the smooth running of our organisation, overseeing staff well-being and projects, and promoting our inclusive work supporting Manchester’s global majority residents.
Read on to get to know more about the lovely Jenny.
Hi Jenny, you seem to be settling in really well. We’d love to find out more about you and how you discovered Afrocats?
I came across Afrocats while I was searching for a role that involved more creativity, and one which was in line with my values.
I’d been freelancing for two years but I also have 15 years’ experience in the NHS, and I wanted to make a wider impact while working with a team - so the role at Afrocats came along at the perfect time.
What kind of work did you do beforehand, and what do you think you will bring to the role?

I’ve developed a fantastic RockFit community (which is dance and fitness to rock and heavy metal music), and I’ve also been doing personal training and body confidence while developing my values of collaboration and working together towards a shared goal, creativity, (mental) health and wellbeing, equitability at all levels.
I can’t wait to start implementing these values across my work!
What were some differences between your last job and your new role at Afrocats?
Afrocats works with lots of global majority communities which is face-to-face on a daily basis, but in my previous role had no team around me and I noticed that my learning was slowing down… I saw that Afrocats is open to creativity and people’s different learning styles, and the rest is history!
I very much believe that if you’re not learning, you’re not growing, so I saw right away the impactful work that you all do and I was super excited at the chance to change things up a little and learn new ways of working.
What are you looking forward to the most?
I’ll be getting stuck into project delivery while being a safety net for the project producers to feel able to bounce ideas around, alongside CEO Magdalen who organises everything centrally.
It’s only my fourth week so I’m still getting to know everybody and getting to grips with how Afrocats works, but as we move into February and March, I’ll be getting out there and living it and breathing Afrocats, meeting the communities we work with, and learning as I go. It’s going to be really exciting stuff!
The team can’t wait to see what you get up to Jenny – we know you’re going to do great things alongside the Afrocats and kittens.
