Robot races & discovering STEM with ClickSafe Club
There was tons of curiosity, creativity and even a little healthy competition as the Afrocats and kittens got hands-on with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), learning how to turn their ideas into something they could build, programme and test.
Together with our brilliant partner ClickSafe Club, we helped support around 13 young people from underserved backgrounds explore a taster session in coding, design, and robotics using LEGO Education kits.
The session gave the group the chance to experiment with robotics in a fun, accessible environment, with activities designed to encourage problem-solving, teamwork and creative thinking.
And rather than simply being shown how something works, our young people were able to get stuck in and test out new ideas.
One of the highlights was building and racing their own LEGO vehicles! With wheels turning and the race track ready, everyone put their creations to the test, tweaking their designs and seeing whose car ‘engine’ could make it to the finish line first!
For many of our young people, it was a chance to discover a side of STEM they may not have encountered before: hands-on activities like these can help young people see technology and engineering not as something intimidating or out of reach, but as something they can participate in, and have fun with.

At Afrocats, we believe that providing opportunities for young people to try new things, develop their confidence and discover their interests is an important part of building brighter futures.
And sessions like this also create space for young people from diverse backgrounds to meet, collaborate and learn from one another.
